Meet Our Dalston Site Manager: Harry

Need a Hand During Your Session?

Harry - Pirate Studios Dalston

Need a spare cable, help with your mixer, or just want to chat? Harry's your guy at Pirate Dalston. With a degree in music production and over ten years of experience playing guitar and bass, Harry writes, produces, and engineers music for himself and other artists when he’s not working at Pirate. His favourite part of the job is discovering new music from the community.

Harry's top studio tip: always bring headphones and a jack adapter—they almost always come in handy.

Harry's top local tip: visit Strelitzia cafe for great food, drinks, and service—just two minutes from your studio door.

How much of my time will the program take each week?

Apprenticeship training should be delivered during the apprentices’ working hours. All apprentices must be allocated 20% of their paid working hours for “off-the-job training”.That can be spread in any way across your working week and does not need to be taken as a solid chunk. It will likely vary week to week according to the specific course you are on and what is being delivered and its method of delivery each week.

Please see the “Delivery method” section of each cohort to get a better idea of how much

What if I decide to leave halfway through the program?

Our recruitment process will be focused on ensuring that we get people who are truly committed to their course.

In the first instance, we will do everything we can to support the apprentice to remain on the program.

In exceptional circumstances, such as long-term illness or in some cases personal challenges, we can apply a ‘break in learning’ to allow the apprentice some time away from their learning.

How do I prepare for my first session?

To make sure your session goes smoothly, we suggest taking a couple of minutes to read a bit more about the type of studio you’ve booked:

  • DJ
  • Recording (production)
  • Rehearsal
  • Podcast
  • Dance
  • Showcase

Reread your confirmation email
It has travel directions, codes for the front door, and codes for your studio. Every time you book a studio type for the first time (for example you're a DJ trying out a production studio), we’ll also send you a quick overview of that space and equipment.

Arrive early
We suggest you arrive at Pirate 15 minutes before your session to help orientate yourself, check out our common areas and find your studio.

House rules
We want you, and the rest of the Pirate community, to have the best possible experience using our facilities. To help us achieve that, we ask that you follow our house rules when visiting Pirate. In summary:

  • Respect your fellow Pirates

  • Absolutely no smoking or vaping

  • Keep all liquids away from the equipment

  • Tidy up at the end of your session

  • Turn off the air-con or heater fan before you leave

What if something breaks or I need a spare?

Spare equipment is available at every Pirate location, including instruments, cables, microphones, stands and other hardware.

If you need replacement equipment or something is missing, contact us on Live Chat via the website or
WhatsApp for assistance. We will direct you to our spares cupboard quickly so that you can get on with your session.

How many people are allowed in each studio?

We have introduced several measures to help keep you as safe as possible. This includes limiting the number of people who can be in a studio at once and placing clear markings on floors to help you know what a safe distance is.

For a full breakdown of the safety measures in place at your Pirate Studios, visit our regularly updated status page.

If I don’t get through this time, will there be another opportunity in the future?

Potentially. This is the first time Pirate is offering something like this and if all goes well we will want to continue to offer apprenticeships.
