Live sessions, no stage-fright

MIC Camden turns the studio space into a live stage. It’s our regular event series at Pirate Camden, inviting bands, solo artists and collectives to perform, jam and share new material in front of a close, switched-on audience.

Artists sign up on the night and play in an intimate, stripped-back studio setting where the focus is on the music, not the polish. Bands and collectives from East London, Camden and beyond are welcome, whether you’re testing new tracks, warming up for gigs or just keen to play live. Expect rotating line-ups, raw performances and the kind of energy you only get when rehearsal meets the crowd.

If you’re a band or vocalist in East London, chances are you’ve played — or want to play — rooms like The Shacklewell Arms, Moth Club, Oslo Hackney, Paper Dress Vintage or Village Underground. This is where songs get road-tested, line-ups turn over fast and nights move from open mics to packed rooms. Dalston and Hackney are always buzzing, with promoters, collectives and DIY nights making it easy to jump on a bill and get heard.

That energy spills straight into the wider artist community. Bands rehearse round the corner, share slots, swap recommendations and bump into each other between sessions and shows. Pirate sits right in the middle of it; a place to get sets tight, prep for gigs and stay plugged into the venues, bars and events that keep East London’s music scene moving.

Local Favourites Across East London

Around Dalston, Ridley Road Market is still the everyday anchor, with fast food, strong coffee, and real local energy between sessions. When you need a breather without leaving the area, Dalston Eastern Curve Garden is a tucked-away reset spot. For a more music-led café hang, Café OTO is a longtime favourite; coffee by day, experimental sound and conversation always close by.

In Hackney, London Fields is where people decompress after longer bookings, especially in summer. Broadway Market stays reliable for food, coffee and a bit of movement without losing the day. Over towards Hackney Wick, Netil House continues to be a creative hub with studios, coworking, events and rooftop sessions that attract artists, DJs and freelancers working nearby.
